In South Africa, betting on sports and horse racing is legal. South Africa consist of nine provinces and each one them has their own gambling and racing board. GRAF are looking out to keep a controlled, safe and secure gambling market within the country.They have developed a strategy for all jurisdictions to follow and they are seeking to see what lacks there is on the current legislation to create a more effective monitoring of the gaming market to avoid illegal gambling and addiciton problems.

 

Online gambling

Online gambling is not legal to participate in for South African Residents. That includes online casino, bingo, pay-out machines and other interactive games such as poker. Section 11 of the National Gambling Act states that “A person must not engage in or make available an interactive game except as authorised in terms of this Act or any other national law.” It is also illegal to provide an online casino within South Africa.

So, if you are a South African Resident, you can find an operator that offers sports betting and horse racing within ZA. To play online on a casino on an international operator is not legal either, to play from within South Africa is restricted by law even though the government don't go for individual players that play on operators with servers outside the country.
